Musical Scale :-
The set of tones with the help of which , we can build melodies and harmonics is known as a musical scale . It is defined as "A series of notes which sounds in such a way that the ratio between their freqencies is definite and can produce a pleasant effect of sound on ear" .
Musical scale is devided into two types -
- Diatonic Musical Scale
- Equally temlered musical scale
As we discussed in the previous article Diatonic Musical Scale , there are some difficulties in using of diatonic scale , and to remove these difficulties , Equally Tempored Musical Scale is developed .
We will discuss about Equally Tempored Musical Scale in this article .
Equally Tempored Musical Scale :
- Equally Tempored Musical Scale is a system of tuning in which every pair of adjascent pitches is separated by the same interval .
- Equal intervals means equal ratios between the frequencies of any adjascent pair .
- Equally Tempored Musical Scale says that the frequencies of an equal temperament can be produced by repeating a generating interval .
- Equally Tempered Scale is consist of 13 keys and 12 intervals in which each of the interval is of 2^1/12 .
- Due to this concept of 12 intervals , the Scale based on this type of tunings or intervals is also known as Twelve Tone Equal Temperament (12-TET) Scale.
- A few new Notes is added to this Scale which are - Cs , Ds , Fs , Gs , and As .
- Since the interval is same between the consecutive Notes , hence a singer can use any of those keys as his tonic key . This is the advantage of this Scale which makes it better than Diatonic Scale .
- Some instruments say - some wind , keyboard and fretted instruments generally use equally temperament scale where some technical limitations prevent exact tunings .
