Recording and reproduction of sound is an electrical and mechanical inscription . The sound recording technology is divided into two classes as Analog and Digital recording.
Analog Recording:- In acoustic analog recording, a microphone diaphragm is used which can detect the changes caused by acoustic sound waves in atmospheric pressure . This microphone diaphragm record these changes as a mechanical representation of the sound waves on a medium like phonograph .
Acoustic Analog recording can also be achieved by the method of Magnetic Tape Recording . In this method , the sound waves vibrates the microphone diaphragm and are later converted into a varying electric current . After it , the vary in electric current is converted into a varying magnetic field using an electromagnet .This varying magnetic field represents the sound on a plastic tape with magnetic coating on it , as magnetised areas .
Reproduction of Analog Sound :- The reproduction of analog sound is just the reverse process in which a bigger loudspeaker diaphragm is connected which causes changes in the atmospheric pressure to form acoustic sound waves .
Digital Recording :- The process of digital recording and reproduction simply converts the analog sound signals that are picked up using microphone , into digital form using the process of Digitisation . This enables the audio data be stored and transmitted by a wider variety of media
Digital audio stores the audio as a series of binary numbers which represents the samples of amplitude of the audio signal at equal time time intervals . It is not necessary that a digital recording can be considered as higher quality than analog recordings because they have higher fiedability , but because the digital format can prevent much loss of quality found in analog recordings due to noise and electromagnetic interference in playback .
A digital audio signal must be reconverted to the analog form during playback before it is applied to a loudspeaker .
The complete process of Recording of Sound and the Reproduction of Sound is discussed in the following articles .
