2. Carbanions

Carbanions :- Carbanions can be defined as The species with an unshared pair of electrons and a negative charge on the central atom is known as Carbanions .


Stability :- The order of stability of Carbanions is as follows :
   Vinyl > Phenyl > Cylopropyl > Ethyl > n-Propyl > Iso byutyl 
                               Or
                      1° > 2° > 3°

This kind of order of stability of Carbanions is due to the Inductive Effect .

Structure :- The central carbon atom with an unshared pair of electron is sp³ hybridised . The three sp³ hybrid orbitals are used in forming three σ bonds with the other atoms . The fourth sp³ orbital is occupied by a lone pair of electrons . It is quite similar to the structure of ammonia .
