Enantiomers

Enantiomers :-
The sterioisomers , which have same physical and chemical properties but differ in optic properties are referred to as the enantiomers or mirror image isomers . Enantiomers can not be superimposed on each other . They have non superimposable mirror images .
Although , the enantiomers have the ability to rotate the plane polarised light in two opposite directions , in which the degree and magnitude of rotation is same . One isomer which rotates the plane polarised light towards right hand side is Dextro rotatory , whereas the other isomer which rotates the plane polarised light towards left hand side is Laevo rotatory.

Properties of Enantiomers :-
1. Enantiomers are non-super imposable mirror images of each other .
2. The physical and chemical properties of Enantiomers are same .
3. Enantiomers can rotate plane polarised light.  The angle of rotation is same but the direction of rotation is opposite. One isomer is Dextro rotatory and other is Laevo rotatory.
4. Enantiomers can not be resolved from racemic mixture by simple methods like fractional distillation , fractional crystallisation , chromatography etc.
